Happy Friday!

My apologies about the fact that things have been dead here. We haven't been very entertaining. We can blame that on school, cause right now I feel like school is the problem to every bad situation worldwide. That's ride-- 3 days in and I am counting down the days till summer. Now maybe it's not that bad, but my summer was interrupted and was cut way to short. I mean it's still 90˚ out there! We should be sittin' in the sun without thinking about our presentation in espanol and how to simplify exponents. Can I get an amen?

Enough of my moaning and groaning. I'll get over it. Let's liven things up with a little beauty from Pinterest!

I'd take this room in a heartbeat.

Taylor shared a couple weeks back about her business (The Twisted Thread) taking off for craft show season. I can't get over her banners she's making. I want to buy everyone and make a banner shrine in my room. I think that would be pretty normal. Seriously, if you are on Facebook you gotta check out her page (here)!

1 | 2 | 3
I'll sink my back to school sorrows into a big lucious piece of cake. Preferably it would look like one of the three above. Cause I mean those are gawgous.

Fall should be here soon! Even though the temperatures could fool ya (but don't worry, the warm weather can stay for a while). I'm digging this layering and the color combo. I can't wait to be able to wear scarves again without my neck feeling nasty.

This living room is oh so cozy looking, and that sign is peeerrfect. I covet it. Which I know is bad.

The perfect color combo from transitioning from summer to fall!

A fabulous verse to remember!

I think I went on a pin sharing rampage. If you want to see more of my pins you can follow me here.
Have an awesome Labor Day weekend, maybe these are your last few days of summer 2013!

5 Things Friday {Wrapping it Up}

It's emotional for me to say that this is the last Friday of freedom for the next 9 months. Now if you see me pouting in a corner you'll know why and won't think of me as such a fool-- you've got that right, me + Taylor will be starting up school again next week Tuesday. Just like everyone else on planet earth seems to be saying: summer went by waaay too fast.

I've been drinking away my back to school blues with red Squirt floats. It's the least I can do + it helps me from croaking from a humidity heat stroke.

I stumbled across these rain boots from Target over pinterest and I'm in love. Kinda dorky, I know. I'd say it's those tiny fish that get my heart a pumpin.

If going back to school for you means laptops and you are seeking for a easy sew it yourself case here's what I did for my laptop! Quick and easy!

My sister and I saw these ADORABLE necklaces on Very Jane but missed the deal. Luckily we found a sale price on the same necklace on her etsy shop here! Of course, we ordered them in a jiffy. They don't ship till August 31, but by golly I'll be waiting by the door step everyday for the mail after that. I got gold, oh and an M you know for Megan in case anyone was wondering :).

I'm hoping to conquer one last project before I head back to school. Can you guess what paint color I chose for it?

Who else is booing that summer is over? Is school just around the weekend for you too? Or do you have a few more weeks of summer? Whatever it may be, enjoy these last few days/weeks of summer!

Craft Show Goodies {Fold-Over Clutch}

As of last week my room looks like JoAnn's fabric store- other than the fact that JoAnns is more organized, and they fabric is probably less wrinkly. I'm confirming what Taylor said to be true-- my craft show brain is on in full swing.
This is just the beginning of craft show goodies coming from my end-- Taylor's got a wazoo of awesome stuff! Hopefully over the next 2, 3 weeks we can cover my loot. (That's what I said about my dresser series. It turned out 2, 3 weeks meant the whole summer)
But today our focus is on my newest addition to my craft show goodies-- The Fold-Over Clutch. It has a mix of two patterns, one on the outside and a surprising coordinating fabric lining on the inside.
This handy clutch measures 7 3/4 inches in length and 8 1/2 inches wide when folded over. It has a 4 inch flap. When it is not folded it's 11 1/2 inches tall and 8 1/2 inches wide. Not to big, not to small! A perfect compromise!

They come in handy in every situation:
Throw in some sunscreen, sunglasses, and your phone and call it a beach day.
Keep you must need make-up products and any other beauty products in here to store in your purse or car.
Or if you have kids that are in diapers-- skip the diaper bag and throw their essentials in here.
Stash a little cash, sunnies, phone, extra bobby pins and call it a night out on the town!
Got a big tote/purse that is your throw pile? Get organized with one of these!
Get your overflowing stash of lipstick/chapstick (me!)/pony tail holders + bobby pins, etc. as organized as can be in these!
Oh did I mention that when it folds out it can double as an ipad case?! Woohoo!
More patterns of this product to come! Hopefully in the near future I'll be featuring the rest of them as well.

Have you been on a crafty kick lately?

Dresser Makeover {The Stenciling}

This final addition on this dresser series was planned to be here last week. However, our computer crashed . Yeah, yeah, excuses excuses, but it is the truth! :) But the time has finally come to wrap up this dressers life on how it got from wood to white!
Let's backtrack-- you can find the big-sha-bang of a reveal here, the cleaning process here, and the how to on going from wood to white here. And today we are gonna have the 101 on how I got pretty drawers.

Yes-sir-ree-bob, I have avocado green petals throughout the bottom of every drawer. Some people may think I'm going bonkers decorating the bottom of drawers when they will just get covered up with, well junk (yeah, I don't keep clothes in my dresser.) I painted them in pursuit of it inspiring me to keep my drawers organized and to keep everything in place! And so far I can say it's worked-- thanks to some dollar store bins 5 out of 8 drawers are looking like this. The remaining 3 drawers have my folded fabric and my massive collection of totes. Apparently I get a little too excited about organization/sassy stenciled drawers cause I just wrote a whole paragraph on it.

It took a while to get the hang of it. To keep it real my first two drawers ended up looking kinda, eh splotchy and just plain messy. I chose not to capture those because they aren't the cutest things (those drawers are filled with fabric). But, after the first two disappointing turnouts I got the feel of it and the rest turned out crisp and clean!

For the process I picked up some Martha Stewart painting sponges and 3 bottles of craft paint. The stencil I used was nothing fancy. No sticky back or nothing.

First I taped the stencil down in place so I didn't have to deal with chasing the stencil around the drawer.
I found that if you take a paint brush and paint a little bit of paint directly onto the sponge there isn't near as much extra paint to seep through the stencil. I did the edge of the stencil first and used the smallest size sponge I had.

After the edge was done I took the largest size sponge and painted the middle petals. Go row by row, and hold down the 'not-yet-painted-part' down with your hand/fingers.

After I finished one section of the stencil I would let the drawer dry and get another drawer to work on. So basically I was working on two drawers at a time.
As you can see my stencil didn't fit the entire draw. I moved it four times to complete the drawer.

In the end there was about 1/2 in where there was no pattern. The stencil ended up not fitting to the rest of the painted area and it looked like a screwed up puzzle. So, I decided to leave that blank. No one's gonna notice, right?

In the end they turned out pretty fab-u-lous if I do say so myself! And here's a little before and after action to show the miracle a little paint, stencil, and a sponge can do!
And that my friends is a wrap to this dressers life as it got pampered! Hopefully sharing my learning process throughout the whole thing has given anyone ready to slap on some paint to a piece of furniture a few hints!

What I Wore {Polka Dots + Denim}

Funny story: I had a denim shirt, for about a month, wore it like one time, decided it wasn't for me, returned the shirt. Three months later, see another denim shirt, tried it on, loved it, have worn the life out of it already.

The first denim shirt was a lot darker, like jean material. I am figuring out that I reason I didn't like it was probably because it was a jean color & I am pretty much am always in jeans, jean shorts, etc. so when I wore both it looked kinda really tacky.

I love the shade of my current denim shirt (above), I can pair it with jeans + a bright something (tank, necklace) and not feel like I am a walking jean quilt.

What I love even more is that I can pair it with my favorite dress! This polka dot one! And, I think it's a lot of you guys favorite too because last time I did a WIW with it y'all went crazy :)

Truth: I attempted to make a flower crown, as you can see that was a fail, so instead I've got this tiny bunch of flowers.

Top: Old Navy // Dress: Delia's // Wedges: Old Navy

Another truth: I try and bring out the actual camera for outfit taking, but my iPhone always does a better job. Thumbs up Apple.

Less than 2 weeks and I'll be sitting in a rock hard chair listening to teachers again. Oh joy...

What are your thoughts on denim? Are you a lighter denim person like me, or do you prefer darker?

Love, Taylor

Dresser Makeover {The Paint Job}

We are slowly making progress on this dresser makeover step-by-step reveal! After this only one more step left!
You can find the cleaning process here. But today we are covering the paint job! The exciting, and also extremely nerve racking process. Maybe it's just me, but taking the step that makes it permanent and no turning back really freaks me out. Once you start though and it looks gah-lamorous takes that away!
For this particular furniture redo I used lacquer paint. Since lacquer paint dries withing 10 seconds using a paint sprayer was the only option.
Now for a little paint 101 (quoting the paint man at Repcolite :) ): Lacquer is the shiny stuff on furniture. And when you use lacquer based paint it will bond with the lacquer on the furniture.  Meaning-- no sanding or priming whatsoever!
Just for the record, my hands are not that big and manly like. That is my dad's hand. I needed to take a picture :)

If the paint sprayer ain't spewing much paint don't freak. I speak from experience. A little lacquer thinner (or paint thinner if you aren't using lacquer based paint) added to the paint will do the trick. Do a ratio of half thinner and half paint. When you get your concoction mixed up paint away! When you paint continue it in one constant motion to prevent any drips.
Now spray away! Have you been painting any furniture?

What I Wore {Chilly August}

Way up here in the mitten (MI), it has been a chilly previous couple weeks (but don't worry -- it has been plenty hot too.) . Let me tell you, after having to pry your clothes off at night from sweating so much, it feels lovely! + I love fall, so cooler temps are always welcome.

 Sweatshirt: Old Navy // Capri's: Younkers (? old) // Shoes: Charlotte Russe // Necklace: Charming Charlie // Bad Grass: Moles (those ugly looking animals)

Sunday night, we headed to Grand Haven to attend Worship on the Waterfront. I knew that it was a little chilly outside & that it would most likely be even cooler by the lake, I decided to wear a light sweatshirt.
I am LOVING this sweatshirt! It is not too thick, but still thick enough to be used as a sweatshirt and not just a shirt. I got it in the Old Navy sale section for only 4.97. Can we talk about a deal, or what?!

Another reason for loving this weather? My hair doesn't stick out to ten-buck-two every time I step outside. Trust me, I look like a lion some afternoons.

Only a few more weeks & DAYS before school. Raise your hand if you agree that summer went by waaaay to fast! **insert hand raised**

Flashback to 4th of July: I got this sweatshirt the day before, and it says BE FREE (as you probably have already read), so I figured that it would be pretty fitting for the 4th. ((be free America, be free)

Happy Wednesday!

Five Things Friday

Taylor and I returned from our mission trip to Newark, NJ last week Saturday. The mission itself was a great experience. Much to our convenience NYC was a 20 minute train ride away. Our youth group spent a day in the Big Apple (a tour around some parts of the city, and time for shopping in Time Square). Beside the fact that I am not so into big cities, it was fabulous and glamorous!

You may have seen those commercials featuring these bottles of joy. They aren't kidding around when they say this stuff is the bomb. It really is. Blueberry raspberry is my favorite so far. I'm itching to try the strawberry lemonade flavor though!

School starts in 26 days. AAAAHHH.

If you are looking for the most comfortable pair of lounge/comfy shorts, look no further. Here is the pair from Old Navy (Terry short!). I loved them so much I've got three pairs- purple, red, and grey!

I'm pretty obsessed with this white-on-white ensemble.

Have an awesome weekend!
Megan
