All Artistic on the Walls

We're gonna get heart to heart and have a little confession time.
Sometimes I bribe my sisters. Like with quarters, left over craft show stuff, or being nice to them for a day. Just kidding on the last one. I'm always nice.

There's one sister in particular who gets quarters for doing art for my walls, cause It turns out looking like this (flash the lights! cue the music!)...
...and this
I. Know.
It's crazy good. Like good enough it gets its own pretty-pointless post.

**True story: 10:30 PM "Choose Joy" came a crashing down the same day I took these pictures. Now if that doesn't get's your heart pumping and checking for burglars than I don't know what does. There was no shattered glass so I am not destined for 7 years of bad luck or however those crazy superstitions go, but the frame needed a little repair (or is completely done for... we'll see if it holds up), and turns out Command Hooks don't hold as much weight as they say they can- those frauds :) (I really do love you command hooks!) I now have yet another nail hole in place of the command hook.

And that's how I'm gonna end the most pointless blog post ever written up on this blog.
Have a super great day! Are you getting any new art for your walls?
And we're on snow day #8 and a 7 day weekend. I have never seen so much snow in my life. It goes passed my knees! AAH. I'm rootin to make it a full week of snowdays... we'll see!

"Let Your Light Shine" Painted Bag

Here's assurance that we aren't dead. More like exams were a 2 weeks ago, and then we got lazy. Now with 6 snow days (WOOHOO!), I'm feeling fresh and ready to tackle this here blog.
And just to document how crazy these snow days have been coming in-- 5 in 2014, and 1 in 2013. All the snow days have either been leading into a break (Christmas break) or coming out of the break, 2 days in a row, or giving us a long weekend. CAH-RAZY!

We're starting off simple with this pretty self-explanitory canvas bag makeover. It's about as straight-forward as you can get, and a no-brainer sort of craft, but it's my number 1 favorite bag at the moment, so I couldn't help but share it with ya.
I first saw this bag at Meg Durksen's Whatever Craft weekend. I don't know how you feel about those crazy cool weekends, but they are pretty darn full of inspiration if you ask me.

Naturally I got right on tracking down a good size canvas bag, and got to work.

Start with your blank canvas bag (I got mine at Hobby Lobby for about 5 bucks, and it's super big so bonus!). Start off by writing "SHINE". Start with the middle letter... being "I" and move out from there.
Once you've got that done move onto "let your light". I typed it up on my laptop, chose a font similar to the one from the inspiration and used that for my guide.

Move on to painting your letters. I used regular craft paint that we had on hand because I'm cheap like that. However, you could of course go ahead with fabric paint.
Put paper towel in the pockets, or in the bag so you don't have any bleeding through.

Let it dry and taa-daa you've got yourself and spiced up canvas bag.
One of my favorite things about this bad boy is the freakishly large pockets in the front. Maybe their not huge. Not I can fit my laptop in there huge, but instead I can tote around my favorite note pad from where else but, Targets dollar section. Cause seriously, who needs a laptop when you've got a metallic note book?

Go get all inspirational on the front of your canvas bag now!

Bathroom Add On: Inspiration

Since 2014 is still so fresh, one thing I'm really pumped about in this particular year is that we are adding a bathroom to our basement to make things a little functional for me as well as 2 of my sisters. I'm making my 2014 resolution to make this bathroom look fab-u-lous. Just kidding, that is the most pathetic resolution heard of to mankind yet. However, I'm pretty excited about this whole deal! (Just ask Taylor... the first few days of 'construction' I was bouncing off the walls and sending her pictures and videos whenever we added another board to the framing)

I won't be documenting every single detail about this new add on, because well... basically all I'm doing is giving my two cents on decorating ideas and putting them into action. But don't be surprised if you find a few updates here and there... and most defiantly a reveal!

From the start we were set on tan walls. The location of the bathroom is lacking 100% in natural light. Zero, zip, nada windows. Boohoo. We need a tan color that will be light, and won't look yellow or dingy in the basement light. I'm rooting for bran muffin... fingers crossed I get my way :).

We've got our vanity picked out, courtesy of Lowe's.
We're going with the bead-board look, and plan on having a storage unit with cabinets and open shelving that will carry through with the bead-board theme.

To spice up our vanity area I'm rooting for a wall of mini subway tile (or quatrefoil) tiles with our mirror.

We don't have a ton of the decor planned out. Most of that will obviously just have to come until the bathroom is almost complete. However, my grandpa gave us 2 baskets that are almost identical to this one, and will make an appearance in the finished room.

This piece of beauty is probably what I am looking forward to the most. I just can't get over it. We have a big empty wall that will need something to spice it up. This canvas is peerrrfect for the job! It goes along with our tangerine colored accent theory. To save a few pennies we are gonna leave the painting job up to my freakishly artistic sister. If it turns out looking like a water color mess, you know who to blame. :)

Five Things Friday

Hope your new year rang in with a positive start! Mine consisted of being in a van with my siblings for 12 hours. Nothing screams happy 2014 like being that close and personal. Let's just say, I hope this year is not as hair pulling as the car ride was at points. (We made a trip to DC over the break, and traveled back to our territory of the world new years.)

I would barely call this a resolution, but my resolution is to keep a calendar in my room for 2014. Come to think of it... I was aiming for that last year too, along with running 3 times a week, and stop procrastinating. Did that happen? Nooo. However, this year it will come true (and hopefully the other 2 above.. maybe that's asking too much?). I've printed out this great freebie. Woohoo... may be 3 days late, but better than 365 days late.

This is just the randomest and wierdest thing ever (cause I talk like I know her) for my to share, but I couldn't help but show ya. Kelli Ingram's kitchen is literally drop dead gorgeous. I'm pretty sure I died and went to heaven when I saw it. My eyes are not holy enough for this. Now that we got that out there....

We're doing a little add on in the basement of our house... more to come hopefully next week. Oh and go ahead and be jealous of that organized storage room in the background! Keeping it real.

School becomes reality for me again come 6:00 Monday morning. I think that deserves the biggest sad face you can ever get your hands on. You know what comes a week after that? Exams. Oh my good lans. How ever shall I survive?

Michigan's winter has been crazy gorgeous this year. Even though it crashes all hopes and dreams of getting my license asap, I will still embrace the winter wonderland. #itslikeJesusshinindown.

Have a superb weekend!
